What is Handshake? How do I post student job opportunities to Handshake?
Ohio State uses Handshake as its official job board for connecting students and recent graduates with meaningful opportunities. Whether you're hiring for part-time roles, internships, co-ops, or full-time positions, Handshake is the go-to platform. It’s free and easy to use - for both employers and students. As an employer, you can post openings, search for candidates by major or skill set, and find the right Buckeyes to support your team’s goals.
As part of the Student Employment Experience (SEE) program, supervisors are required to post open student positions on Handshake to help promote opportunities to students.
Jobs must first be posted in Workday to meet HR requirements. Once that’s complete, supervisors should create a corresponding posting in Handshake to advertise the role more broadly.
Students are introduced to Handshake during orientation and are regularly directed to it by career services staff, making it a central hub for job discovery. Posting on Handshake helps increase visibility, expand your applicant pool, and support a more consistent and equitable job search experience for students.

Are undergraduate student employees permitted to supervise other undergraduate students? Can they lead GROW conversations?
It is recommended that you reach out to your HR Business Partner (HRBP) or HR Consultant (HRC) for direction. While some offices within The Ohio State University allow students to supervise other students, there is currently no policy on this topic for the university as a whole.
If your office or department employs student supervisors, it is up to you if you would like to include them in other students' GROW conversations. That being said, we strongly recommend against students fully conducting GROW conversations with other students with no staff supervisor present.
What are the student employee pay rate ranges? And where can supervisors find this information?
The Office of Human Resources’ Compensation team is responsible for the student employee pay rate ranges. Please visit their website for more information.
