Supervisor Workshops
The SEE program supports supervisors of student employees to ensure they have the resources they need to create a supportive and inclusive working environment. All of the following workshops are offered virtually, unless otherwise designated.
National Student Employment Week Celebration
In honor of National Student Employment Week (April 14–18, 2025), we invite you to join us for a week of celebration and connection!
Stop by Our Thank-You Note Station!
Location: Ohio Union, Outside of the Great Hall (First Floor)
Dates: Monday, April 14 & Tuesday, April 15
Time: 2:00–5:00 p.m.
Take a moment to write a thank-you note to a student employee, supervisor, or colleague! You can hand-deliver your note or leave it with us to be shared at our celebration event and via email afterward. We also have a Qualtrics survey available for those who prefer to submit their notes electronically - including folks that do not regularly visit the Columbus campus!
Student Employee Appreciation Week Celebration
Location: Ohio Union, Maudine Cow Room (Lower Level)
Date: Wednesday, April 16
Time: 2:00–4:00 p.m.
Schedule of Events:
2:00–3:00 p.m. | "Challenge Mindset in Careers" – A fun, interactive networking activity for student employees and supervisors.
3:00–4:00 p.m. | Open Networking – Drop in any time to connect, celebrate, and unwind.
We invite all student employees and student employee supervisors to enjoy snacks, coloring pages, puzzles, and more while celebrating the incredible contributions of student employees. Whether you’re looking to network, take a well-earned break, or show appreciation, we’d love to see you there! For those that are unable to attend in-person, we plan to send virtual copies of the activities and thank-you notes for you to enjoy at any time.
Let the SEE Team know if you have any questions, and we hope to celebrate with you soon!
Required Workshops
The following workshops are required for all SEE supervisors:
- SEE Onboarding Presentation: This session offers an introduction to the Student Employment Experience (SEE) program and provides resources and next steps for supervisors of student employees to fully engage in SEE.
- SEE Learning Assessment (SEELA) Workshop: This workshop is designed to help SEE supervisors understand the Student Employment Experience Learning Assessment (SEELA) and how to interpret the assessment results. SEE supervisors can then use this information to better support their student employees and inform their Guided Reflection on Work (GROW) conversations.
- Supervising Student Employees: This workshop covers foundational principles of supervision through the lens of college student employment. Through learning evidence-based practices, and sharing challenges and strategies with others, participants will walk away with practical solutions for supervising students in their own context. Learn to set reasonable yet challenging expectations and offer effective feedback.
Optional Workshops
The following workshops are also offered, but not required. They can be attended by either the SEE supervisor themselves, or another representative in their office/department:
- Top Tools for a Successful Difficult Conversation: Supervisors will learn how to navigate difficult conversations using two critical skill sets. Participants will practice identifying what are facts and what are narratives along with how to create and reestablish safe spaces for open dialogue, with their student or other staff member.
- Supervisors’ Introduction to Handshake: In this 45-minute session, supervisors will learn how to create their Handshake accounts. This interactive workshop will provide supervisors with tools, tips, and tricks, for using Handshake to support student employees, and to market and post their positions.
While SEE supervisors only need to attend these trainings once, they are welcome to attend workshops repeatedly if they would like to revisit the information. For questions, additional support or consultation, please email see@osu.edu.
